药师琉璃光如来过去曾发十二大愿，愿为众生解除疾苦、所求愿满。

经云：[若有人能于此圣像燃灯供养，随所乐求一切皆遂。求长寿，得长寿。求富饶，得富饶。求官位，得官位。求男女，得男女… … 若以众净资具，恭敬供养，彼世尊药师琉璃光如来，恶梦恶相，诸不吉祥，皆悉隐没，不能为患… …]。

The Medicine Buddha once made twelve vows to alleviate the sufferings of sentient beings and to fulfil their wishes.

According to the sutra: “Those who lights lamps before the holy image of the Buddha will have all his wishes joyfully fulfilled. If the person asks for longevity, longevity will be attained . If wealth is requested, wealth will be attained. If promotion to an official is requested, such a promotion will be attained. If children are requested, children will be born. If the Medicine Buddha is reverentially worshiped with various clean paraphernalia, nightmares and various inauspicious phenomena will cease and disaster cannot harm the devotee.”
